A BRIEF HISTORY
Formed in the 1930's, the Culver City Bar
Association (CBA) was one of the first local small bar associations in the
state of California. CBA merged with
the Marina Bar Association in the mid to late 1980s. The Culver
Marina Bar Association, as we know it today, commenced in existence on
November 6, 1995. The specific purposes for which the Association was formed
are:
- To encourage a thorough legal education
for all candidates for admission to the Bar.
- To advance the science of
jurisprudence.
- To apply the knowledge and experience
of its members in the field of law to the promotion of public good.
Many of our members are small business and solo
practitioners. Lawyer networking is encouraged and practiced within the association.
The members meet for a dinner meeting on the third Tuesday of every month at Truxton's American Bistro in Westchester and members earn one hour of MCLE credit
for their participation.
Speakers at these events come from both without and within the association. Speakers have included Mark Geragos; KNBC 4 Legal Reporter Manny Medrano; California Court
of Appeals Justice Paul Turner, former Los Angeles County District Attorney
Gil Garcetti; then-USC Law Professor Erwin Chemerinsky; Federal District Judge
Consuelo Marshall; Congressman Steven Kuykendall; Former Secretary of State
Bill Jones; Former California Supreme Court Justice Armand Arabian;
Sheriff Lee Baca; Former
Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard Parks; 2005 State Bar President John Van de
Kamp; Former US Solicitor General Kenneth Starr.
The Officers/Directors hold a monthly luncheon
board meeting. Annual elections are held in November/December. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in the
running of a small bar association.
